congratulations to my friends joe and beth on their recent marriage.
i drew this portrait of them (along with their cat rocketman, who is not terribly pleased with his likeness) for their thank you cards. wahoo!

for dana spiotta’s new book, stone arabia, emusic asked five artists to create five fake album covers for five of the fake albums in the book. my cover was for the album, take me home and make me fake it, by the fakes. added bonuses, emusic posted the author’s response to each of the covers, and the la times book blog reviewed the fake covers (sort of).

president obama has made epic use of the autopen to the point of signing a bill into law with it. this, however, opens up a constitutional problem. the mechanically recreated signature itself is not an issue, but using this machine (or any proxy) without the president being in the room, according to article I of the constitution, is. anyway, go to slate to read the full nitty gritty, i just draw the pens running amok.
semi related: sometimes i have know the authors of slate articles, have emailed with them, or just recognize their names. this article was written by someone i don’t know, terry l. turnipseed. terry, your name is awesome. that is all.

photos from earlier this summer of lunchtime cruise south with the pencil factory crew on the recently opened east river ferry to dumbo.

never before seen, illustrators running.
seen before, illustrators eating pizza.
back in february, i had the opportunity to get my hands painty on a project for better homes and gardens. friend, studio neighbor, and illustrator james gulliver hancock did the initial stoop drawing, but he couldn’t be bothered to change the date of his wedding to create the large finished piece. so for a day, i got to be large scale painter eben! nice to get out of the studio, as well as getting to meet some lovely people.

the shoot took place and canoe studios in manhattan, and while i have nothing but love for the pencil factory, canoe has some views.

a tasty illustration for a slate article about a dinner party featuring rancid food, and the types and likelihood of actually getting food poisoning. delicious.

drawing shake shack without getting a burger…success or failure? but don’t fret, i had a nice big order of bibimbap.
